What was america`s relation with allies during World War II and the Cold War?
During the Cold War the United States was committed to support any government under attack by Soviet sponsored insurgents per the Truman Doctrine. There were times when the US found itself ociated with some pretty odious characters that had come to power in non-Communist countries. We tended to hold our nose and support them anyway in the theory that as long as we were providing aid we had a carrot and stick we could use to try and influence these dictator's behavior towards their own people. Liberals critical of American policy at the time suggest this is proof we were hypocrites and deserved to loose the Cold War. In fact, as bad as some of these dictators were, the alternative (a Communist police state) was worse for the people that lived in the countries you mention. Dealing with non-Communist dictators was a dilemma we had to face during the Cold War. There is no way to put a pretty face on it.
