Please help with vocabulary paragraph PLEASE?

James could do it all, he was such a good raconteur that seemed to never falter. Some who listened thought him literate, while others thought that umption to be a sophistry:it just wasn't cogent. It seems any utterance from others who knew James was considered verbose. It was considered a matter of cirlocution and prattle.
